a simplicitacious life

{August 31, 2008}   my cramped up journey so far

okay, we’ve been travelling and travelling and travelling…
and i got to try the spider!
they dont taste too bad u know..
a little too oily but they’re nice!

the journey up to banteay meanchey was pretty tiring
but it was worth it..

when we got there in the evening, they kids were helping lay sand on stone for us to walk on
and i decided, “why not?!”
so i got down on my knees and started to play with them
it was really fun!
the kids were laughing at me
we all couldnt understand each other
hahaha
but it was very fun
the orphanage there only has electricity from 6pm to 9pm
and because we were there, they had it on till 930pm for us
the reason why they have the generator on for such a short time is because the price for gas is expensive and they cannot really afford it
but let me tell u, that place, at night, its BEAUTIFUL!
the whole sky was filled to the brim with stars!
gorgeous gorgeous stars
i was even lucky enough to see a shooting star!
Dav is an eleven year old girl that was following me around
she ended sleeping on the same bed as me..
oh and did i mentioned that me and tina decided to sleep in the girl’s dorm?
the rest of them had a wooden house to themselves
and there’s a ‘witch’ with us
i’ve got no other comments but “grrr…”
anyhow, these kids are really well behaved, very sweet kids
and they are SUPER CUTE!!!!!

this is neangros (left) and chanry

oh and neangros’s sister is Dav

next day we left early to check out the university that is currently under construction
and than we left for kompong chnang
which is about an hour from phnom penh..
oh and banteay meanchey is about 6-8 hours drive from pp..
anyhow, when we got there..
a little boy came running up to me and grabbed my fingers (only cos his hands were small) and dragged me across the quadrangle to the shade..
super cute kid
very very energetic
very hyper
adorable as hell
and then i found out that he’s got a twin!
his older twin brother is an hour older than him
both are 5 years old with a genital disformality
but they are SO CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
the older twin was hanging on to me
i was carrying him around
and then he wanted me to piggyback him..
so we were running jumping and dancing all across the quadrangle
he didnt wanna get off me!!! hahaha
and only after i put him down did i realise that he peed in his pants before we arrived
so i smelled like pee!
my clothes, my hands!
even till dinner and after several hand washes, it still smelt like pee! hahaha
but oh well, he’s too cute
but one thing that struck me was that they do not have towels, neither do they have body shampoo or even a bar of soup..
they bathe with WASHING DETERGENT!
WTF~!
at least the BM kids were waaaay cleaner and nicer smelling..
then again they had more girls there..
kompong chnang’s kids were mostly male kids
plus they were all very young..

thats sophan (younger twin) and sophorn

dont be fooled by sophorn’s innocent looks!
he’s one hell of a brat i tell u!
just because he’s an hour older, he probably thinks he can bully his brother like nobody’s business!
ahahaha..
sophan on the other hand has an eternally cheeky look on his face
and he IS cheeky
ahahaa
he’ll be running here and there and everywhere
pulling your pants
pulling your shirt up
trying to drag u here and there
wants u to watch him play..
they’re both just waaaay too cute
oh and did i mention that the little soporn is a camwhore? hahaha
he abdolutely loves the camera!
everytime he sees a camera pointed at him, he’ll stop and pose
which is pretty cute considering the fact that u’d think they should be shy
plus they just got to the orphanage about a week and a half ago.
their mom died after giving birth to sophon
and their dad is fatally ill in the hospital..
super kesian
but i love em

sophorn being all cute-sie to the camera
(before i found out about the pee)

today i went to the garbage dump area..
there are not many ppl working there anymore
the cambodian government wants to shut the dump down
and so a lot of people are being forced to leave
a lot of them will be jobless after this cos they’ve been doing this all their lives!
i havent gotten a chance to upload the pictures yet..
will do so when i get back to the hotel..
am currently at another orphanage in pp
everyone just came back from a picnic by the river
will blog about it some other time
especially once i edit all the pictures..
all em pictures are way too big in size

my other experiences, in a nutshell, includes the world kickboxing championships that was held at the national stadium..
and i’ve gotta tell u, the cambodians are AMAZING!
you can be a champion anywhere else in the world but come to cambodia and get your ASS WHOOPED by the cambodians!
oh and to top of the excitement, i was ringside cos i was holding a dslr..
plus i was the only girl there so i guess they didnt wanna say anything to me hahaha

i had their sweat falling on me
all the photographers were trying to dodge the water and sweat that it was hilarious! hahaha
very fun very fun..
oh yea, while we were waiting for the championships to start, we went to the football field to chill
and man did i get a surprise!
there were over a thousand ppl dancing and exercizing simultaniously!
it was an amazing sight!
everyone danced the same steps
everyone did the same footwork
it just makes u wonder how all of em learn to do such things
i couldnt see the instructor anywhere
and the stadium was HUGE
and there were speakers everywhere blasting music!
ahahahaha… really one interesting sight i tell ya

anyhow, i’ve taken heaps of pictures
gonna start a trend soon
ahahahaha…
this is one of em pictures
she was at a stall outside the restaurant we had lunch at while on the way back from sihanoukville

cant wait to go back to kl, but i dont want to leave cambodia either
what do u propose to that?
:)

botakbraces says:

do what I did…………come back to kl, stay depressed for two weeks, then head off to europe for 4 weeks to forget about how great cambodia was. then, find a job that reminds you how wonderful materialism is. LOL. can’t wait for u to get back to KL then we can start planning our next trip to Cambodia.

melmonica02 says:

oh my gosh, the kids are super comel!!!!!!!

Saran says:

Singyuin, you’re the next Angelina Jolie for UN :)

siehjin says:

my guess is that you *have* to come bk to kl for practical reasons, right?

but u can always keep cambodia in mind… maybe go there to stay someday?

not sure where you are in terms of your faith journey at the moment, but if you’re doing ok and seeking for God’s will/purpose/direction for your career… maybe consider long-term missions in cambodia?

i still remember my last spoken word to you, that time we bumped into each other in genting when i was on my honeymoon… “keep the faith”. i hope you have, and will continue to…=)

God bless! =)
