a simplicitacious life

{August 31, 2008}   my cramped up journey so far

okay, we’ve been travelling and travelling and travelling…
and i got to try the spider!
they dont taste too bad u know..
a little too oily but they’re nice!

the journey up to banteay meanchey was pretty tiring
but it was worth it..

when we got there in the evening, they kids were helping lay sand on stone for us to walk on
and i decided, “why not?!”
so i got down on my knees and started to play with them
it was really fun!
the kids were laughing at me
we all couldnt understand each other
hahaha
but it was very fun
the orphanage there only has electricity from 6pm to 9pm
and because we were there, they had it on till 930pm for us
the reason why they have the generator on for such a short time is because the price for gas is expensive and they cannot really afford it
but let me tell u, that place, at night, its BEAUTIFUL!
the whole sky was filled to the brim with stars!
gorgeous gorgeous stars
i was even lucky enough to see a shooting star!
Dav is an eleven year old girl that was following me around
she ended sleeping on the same bed as me..
oh and did i mentioned that me and tina decided to sleep in the girl’s dorm?
the rest of them had a wooden house to themselves
and there’s a ‘witch’ with us
i’ve got no other comments but “grrr…”
anyhow, these kids are really well behaved, very sweet kids
and they are SUPER CUTE!!!!!

this is neangros (left) and chanry

oh and neangros’s sister is Dav

next day we left early to check out the university that is currently under construction
and than we left for kompong chnang
which is about an hour from phnom penh..
oh and banteay meanchey is about 6-8 hours drive from pp..
anyhow, when we got there..
a little boy came running up to me and grabbed my fingers (only cos his hands were small) and dragged me across the quadrangle to the shade..
super cute kid
very very energetic
very hyper
adorable as hell
and then i found out that he’s got a twin!
his older twin brother is an hour older than him
both are 5 years old with a genital disformality
but they are SO CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
the older twin was hanging on to me
i was carrying him around
and then he wanted me to piggyback him..
so we were running jumping and dancing all across the quadrangle
he didnt wanna get off me!!! hahaha
and only after i put him down did i realise that he peed in his pants before we arrived
so i smelled like pee!
my clothes, my hands!
even till dinner and after several hand washes, it still smelt like pee! hahaha
but oh well, he’s too cute
but one thing that struck me was that they do not have towels, neither do they have body shampoo or even a bar of soup..
they bathe with WASHING DETERGENT!
WTF~!
at least the BM kids were waaaay cleaner and nicer smelling..
then again they had more girls there..
kompong chnang’s kids were mostly male kids
plus they were all very young..

thats sophan (younger twin) and sophorn

dont be fooled by sophorn’s innocent looks!
he’s one hell of a brat i tell u!
just because he’s an hour older, he probably thinks he can bully his brother like nobody’s business!
ahahaha..
sophan on the other hand has an eternally cheeky look on his face
and he IS cheeky
ahahaa
he’ll be running here and there and everywhere
pulling your pants
pulling your shirt up
trying to drag u here and there
wants u to watch him play..
they’re both just waaaay too cute
oh and did i mention that the little soporn is a camwhore? hahaha
he abdolutely loves the camera!
everytime he sees a camera pointed at him, he’ll stop and pose
which is pretty cute considering the fact that u’d think they should be shy
plus they just got to the orphanage about a week and a half ago.
their mom died after giving birth to sophon
and their dad is fatally ill in the hospital..
super kesian
but i love em

sophorn being all cute-sie to the camera
(before i found out about the pee)

today i went to the garbage dump area..
there are not many ppl working there anymore
the cambodian government wants to shut the dump down
and so a lot of people are being forced to leave
a lot of them will be jobless after this cos they’ve been doing this all their lives!
i havent gotten a chance to upload the pictures yet..
will do so when i get back to the hotel..
am currently at another orphanage in pp
everyone just came back from a picnic by the river
will blog about it some other time
especially once i edit all the pictures..
all em pictures are way too big in size

my other experiences, in a nutshell, includes the world kickboxing championships that was held at the national stadium..
and i’ve gotta tell u, the cambodians are AMAZING!
you can be a champion anywhere else in the world but come to cambodia and get your ASS WHOOPED by the cambodians!
oh and to top of the excitement, i was ringside cos i was holding a dslr..
plus i was the only girl there so i guess they didnt wanna say anything to me hahaha

i had their sweat falling on me
all the photographers were trying to dodge the water and sweat that it was hilarious! hahaha
very fun very fun..
oh yea, while we were waiting for the championships to start, we went to the football field to chill
and man did i get a surprise!
there were over a thousand ppl dancing and exercizing simultaniously!
it was an amazing sight!
everyone danced the same steps
everyone did the same footwork
it just makes u wonder how all of em learn to do such things
i couldnt see the instructor anywhere
and the stadium was HUGE
and there were speakers everywhere blasting music!
ahahahaha… really one interesting sight i tell ya

anyhow, i’ve taken heaps of pictures
gonna start a trend soon
ahahahaha…
this is one of em pictures
she was at a stall outside the restaurant we had lunch at while on the way back from sihanoukville

cant wait to go back to kl, but i dont want to leave cambodia either
what do u propose to that?
:)

{August 28, 2008}   and again the world twists..

.. like a cat falling from a tree
to reveal just how capable it is to fall the right side up

anyhow, looks like i will not be returning to kl tomorrow!
i’ll be staying with the troup and we’ll be visiting different orphanages throughout the next 6 days..
and on the 3rd till the 6th there will be a children’s camp..
am really looking forward to spend time with these children!
there’ll be 200+ kids there
imagine the fun!
and of course all the pictures i’ll be able to take of them..

bliss~

i need to thank WILL CHUA and LAWRANCE for giving me this opportunity to come here and experience all these..
and Will, thank u so much for putting up with the bratty me.. hahaha
i’m not good with words or face to face but, thank you
i am grateful beyond words

so….
i’ll be returning to a very different kl..
i’ll be homeless when i get back..
i cant even pack up my own shit/room by myself (i’m too damn anal.. need to do it myself)
and i’ll need to go for job interviews..
need to get so many things in order..
pretty much everything is a mess.. a MESS i tell u…….
i just hope not too many things are in a mess or i’ll drop dead.. literally

okok.. need to get off the internet, pack up and sleep!
we’re leaving for phnom penh in the morning
gonna be back in Sihanoukville in 6 days

omg omg forgot to tell u peeps,
next time if u ever come to Sihanoukville, do check out this place called the Snake House.
the layout of the place is incredible!
there are all sorts of snakes in glass houses and baby crocs and fishes in a tiny very nicely done up real looking mini ocean aquarium in the centre of the restaurant and also one huge ass ugly mofo bullfrog!
i think i have a picture of it somewhere…
will post it up later if i can remember… hahaha

okays.. times to goes

i’m getting so damn fat with the food here..
shit~
and u’d think that when u go to a country like this u’ll be starving… WRONG!

{August 27, 2008}   a strange turn of events

i’m back in cambodia!
but this time i’m not in Siem Reap..
i’m at a place called Sihanoukville..
its a four hour bus ride from Phnom Penh…
well, if u’re rich enough, u can hire a car.. its ONLY 80USD (so expensive!) but it cuts your travel time in half..

well, anyways, i’m here for a conference..
its a general conference by SEAPC called Friends around the Table..
all the leaders of the different countries, that seapc is working on, are here giving their updates, talking about what they are planning to do in the future..
its a great opportunity for me to meet a lot of great people..
people who are smart, caring and giving..
only thing is, i’m the youngest person here
and they think i’m married..
damn insulting
sigh~
i think its the ring that i’m wearing
should take it off…

to cut the story short, i’m learning a lot here..
i’ve gotten ideas and of course am getting a lot of contacts to help with what i want to do in the future

and of course, being me, i love taking pictures
the only problem is, i’m using a dslr that i’m not used to..
(dont own a dslr)
and a lense thats apparently very hard to use..
the prime 50mm lense.
so all the pictures that i took that i thought were going to turn out amazing, turned out like crap..
all the nice shots of cute kids on the beach..
ARGH!
i’m SO DAMN FRUSTRATED imma SCREAM!
i am seriously contemplating switching back to using my lil ixus…
we’ll see how things goes

i might extend my stay cos half of the group are heading to orphanages after the conference
the other half are heading to Laos
but if i stay i’ll have to forgo my current air ticket and purchase another
which reminds me..
we missed our flight here on saturday and had to get another set of tix for sunday morning
long story..
pretty interesting  adventure though..
ahahahaha..
dont think  stinky would agree with me
ahahahaha….

anyhow,  this is a picture that i took of this  ADORABLE kid by the beach
the focus is a little off
but whatever..
he’s too cute
so GERAM~

super cute right?!
he was laughing and smiling when i showed him the pictures that i took of him!
the look on his face was priceless!
i LOVE this kid!
we took some other pictures
i got to carry him..
i wanna adopt him!
like seriously..
cambodian kids are damn adorable!
okok i’m getting a little too disgustingly musshy hahaha
i’m gonna stop now

{August 10, 2008}   linda, dont go…!

friends come and go..
or so they say
its easy to think of it that way
but when the time comes when a close friend that u ‘grew up’ with has to leave, its hard to let go..

goodbyes are never easy
especially if u’ve spent the best of your young adult life with them
going through all sorts of problems and soul searching moments
growing up and finding yourself with them..
hard to say goodbye to that sort of friendship and companionship, right?

although some may say, “cheer up, u never know… u’ll probably meet again sometime in the future somewhere else the in world”,
i’m more tempted to think that, there’s always also a possibility that u’ll never see that person again
the future holds too many possibilities
come what may, u say..
screw what may… i say
i wish i could see the future
to be able to say that there are no uncertainties so that there are no surprises..
to be able to be prepared against all odds
how i wish..

its time to say goodbye..
sigh~
linda linda…

no more dinners with linda
no more mamaks with linda
no more ice cream with linda
no more movies with linda
no more mv sessions with linda
no more late night talks with linda
no more series watching with linda
no more “eh linda, lets go to leisure mall!” with linda
no more….
no more…….
sigh..
